For the month of September, the HSAwareness team worked to support literacy in Chicago Public Schools by collecting children’s books for the library of Gillespie Technology Magnet School in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago.

The HSAwareness team, led by HSA SVP Josephine Thomas-Hoytt, collected lightly-used or new books, as well as monetary donations for purchasing books at local bookstores. Overall, the firm was able to provide over 100 books for the Gillespie Tech library, many of which will help fill the library’s need of early-reader fiction books.

“As a voracious reader, I’m thrilled to be involved in giving the gift and joy of reading to the students at Gillespie,” said Thomas-Hoytt. “While I have my share of electronic books, I still love the feel of a good book in my hands. There’s something about dog-earing the pages and getting transported to another place and time while disconnecting from electronic devices for a few minutes that’s relaxing and comforting.”

The HSAwareness team would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to our book drive, and we are looking forward to working with you on our next social outreach initiative.
