FOUR PROMOTIONS ANNOUNCED BY
HSA COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATEApril 2, 2008
(Chicago – April 2, 2008) Robert E. Smietana, CEO and vice chairman, HSA Commercial Real Estate, announced that the firm has promoted four individuals in the accounting, property management and finance divisions:
w Laura T. Derusha assumes the title of senior vice president/controller from vice president/controller in the firm’s Accounting Division. She is responsible for reviewing the operations of HSA’s accounting groups, the preparation of monthly financial statements for HSA’s property management portfolio, overseeing compliance with lender reporting requirements and maintaining investor/partner relationships in HSA’s management portfolio. Derusha, 41, is a graduate of Central Michigan University and is a member of the Illinois CPA Society.
w Kenneth E. Verne, 32, was promoted from general manager to vice president-asset manager in the firm’s Property Management Division. Verne manages an HSA-owned portfolio of industrial properties totaling nearly 6-million-square-feet in Tennessee, Ohio, Louisiana and Kentucky. In addition, he works with outside brokers to coordinate marketing activities as spaces become available in the properties and negotiates lease renewals with ownership. Verne is a licensed real estate professional in the State of Illinois and a graduate of the University of Iowa.
w Also in the Property Management division, Joseph A. Swojenski was promoted from general manager to vice president-facilities management. Swojenski handles HSA’s facility management account with Chicago-based Gateway Foundation, a 35-year old organization providing effective drug and alcohol abuse treatment in community-based and corrections settings for people without financial resources. He is responsible for 19 properties located in four states. Swojenski, 54, is a graduate of the University of Illinois and has the Real Property Administrator (RPA) designation from BOMA.
w Finally, Douglas K. Jones, 24, was promoted from financial analyst to assistant vice president. Jones works in the firm’s Finance Division and works directly with the firm’s senior management in analyzing financing for the acquisition and development of properties owned by HSA. He is presently working on putting together financing packages for several large HSA industrial developments planned for 2008. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Dayton, where he was the recipient of a President’s Scholarship and an Accounting Excellence Scholarship.
