HSA COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE NAMED FACILITY MANAGER FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION'S ILLINOIS PORTFOLIO
February 11, 2005

(Chicago – February 11, 2005) Robert E. Smietana, CEO and vice chairman, HSA Commercial Real Estate, has announced that the firm has been named facility manager for a 13-building property portfolio in Illinois for the Gateway Foundation. The Gateway Foundation is a national leader in the fight against alcohol and other drug abuse and addiction. For more than 33 years, Gateway has provided innovative, community-based treatment services.

The properties, totaling 275,000-square feet, are located in Chicago, Aurora, Belleville, Caseyville, Lake Villa, Carbondale and Springfield. Christine Leonard, executive vice president and director of management operations, will lead the Gateway team, which will consist of Joe Swojenski, general manager, and Ryan Worcester, facility manager.

“We are extremely proud to have been selected by the Gateway Foundation in this competitive bidding process,” said Smietana, “and are excited about our plans to coordinate the management of these properties and increase the operating efficiencies of this challenging portfolio so that the Gateway Foundation can devote its energies in more productive ways to better service their intended audience.”

HSA has a history of managing non-profit assets

HSA has managed properties for non-profit organizations since 2000, initially for United Way Crusade of Mercy, followed by the Chicago Commons portfolio of 12 properties, and has become a recognized leader among real estate service providers in the non-profit arena. Both Swojenski and Worcester already are responsible for the successful management of these two portfolios and will continue their efforts in addition to managing the Gateway Foundation's properties.

“We will be providing building services that are responsive to the needs of each facility and its occupants,” commented Leonard, “and are honored to have been chosen by this dedicated and caring organization for this assignment.”

Celebrating more than 24 years of excellence in commercial real estate, Chicago-based HSA Commercial Real Estate is a full-service real estate firm specializing in office, industrial, retail and health care real estate leasing, management, marketing, development and financing on a national basis. The firm and its principals have developed and acquired more than 30 million square feet of commercial real estate with total consideration in excess of $1.5 billion, its brokerage divisions have completed more than 6,500 transactions in over 30 states representing both owners and tenants, while the asset management division currently manages a property portfolio in excess of 18 million square feet.
